When I first joined Twitter back in 2007, I remember seeing that famed default avatar and frowning a bit. Part of me went:

“Oh sweet! Now everybody can use it!”

The other part of me went:

“Ew, bad padding. Ew, bad font. Ew, everybody’s going to use it.”

It’s a recurring feeling I’ve been getting lately, something that started right around when DDR became mainstream¹.

A few days ago, as you probably already know, they implemented a bird as the new default Twitter avatar. It’s a cute bird, but my happiness is in the fact that I can now personally, selfishly and deliriously feel like the “o_O” is mine again.

It was never mine to begin with, although I seem to use it in an alternating fashion in IMs, but it makes me happy. So thank you Doug, I’m going to credit you for this change. Happy Friday people, looks like I’ve started my weekend early. :D
